Horses are being legged up - fall hunting is just around the corner. If you haven't already, clear your calendar for October 3-8, 2016 and prepare to venture to Northern Virginia for the Theodora A, Randolph Field Hunter Championships. This whirlwind week is jam-packed with foxhunting, social activities, and more foxhunting. Host packs include the Middleburg Hunt, the Blue Ridge Hunt, the Orange County Hounds and the Bull Run Hunt. Competitors have travelled from as far as Texas and Canada to share in the extreme sport and cameraderie. Many competitors return year after year and it is a highlight of the hunting calendar. The deadline for applications is only a month away. Entries are limited to the first 60 received.

The entry fee is $250 per horse, which affords up to 4 days of hunting and admission to cordial social events. All participants receive admission to the Middleburg Fall Races and listing in the event program. Field hunter finalists, chosen by a panel of riding judges at the conclusion of each day of hunting, compete prior to the race meet on Saturday morning at Glenwood Park to determine the overall champions. Contestants will ride in a mock hunt and perform an individual test to determine the championship and placing in the owner-rider and horses owned by other than the rider categories. Cash prizes are awarded to the hunts represented by each of the champions. Best turned-out awards are given at each meet, and also at the finals.
