The Land Rover America's Polo Cup, the worlds largest and most prestigious International Polo Event is announcing a Joint "Kick Off & Polo Season Closer" at the last official polo match this Fall on the DC National Mall, West Potomac Park Polo Grounds to be held September 20th, 2008.
"Playing the oldest known sport to mankind, is an incredible and unique social experience to do on the Washington DC National Mall – we are honored to be hosting our Kick Off Polo Celebration on a US National Park treasure!" stated Tareq Salahi, Founder & President of the America's Polo Cup.
At the America's Polo Cup in May 2008, the Embassy of Australia accepted and announced that Australia has officially challenged the US Polo Team for the America's Polo World Cup to take place at the Capitol Polo Club on May 9th, 2009. The Kick Off Polo Match on the DC Mall will be a celebration of the relationship between Australia and the United States with the America's Polo Cup; including an exciting preview and sampling of what to come for guests and patrons in 2009.
Each year, the Five Foot America's Cup perpetual trophy is transferred to the challenging country's Embassy to be proudly displayed for the upcoming year. The America's Cup has enough room on its base for 200 years of Champions to be displayed on this impressive Cup. On September 20th, the America's Cup will be last seen this year to the public to view and take photographs at the DC National Mall Polo Grounds. The Cup will then be relocated to Embassy of Australia until America's Polo Cup Eve on May 8, 2009.
Both the Australians and the Americans are equally and fairly confident in an upcoming victory for their country. Team captain and President Tareq Salahi comments, "The US Polo Team is very proud to have won back the Americas Cup when we played the Italians last year... we recognize that the Australians are incredibly competitive and the US Polo Team will be preparing between now and 2009 to keep the Cup here in America!"
September 20th will begin with sights and sounds of Australia featuring Aboriginals performing a didgeridoo, to a Kangaroo and Koala bears on display for photo opportunities, to mingling with the who's who of Washington DC while tasting Virginia & Australian Wines in the VIP advance sales only ticketed tent. Two Polo matches are scheduled for the day, to include a Local League Team from the Capitol Region, followed by Professional Players conducting a demonstration on the polo field. Remarks will be made by Top leaders in the Washington DC region, including a representative from the Australian Government, professional athletes from various franchises and the Commissioner of the National Polo League, who has a statement to make about professional polo coming to Washington DC. Polo would not be the same, without additional Hollywood Glamour and coinciding with the Australia vs. USA Polo Cup will be a preview and information about the new motion picture "AUSTRALIA", featuring Nicole Kidman premiering in November 2008.
