Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting the equine therapist with group and individual therapy sessions, preparing horses and equipment for these sessions as well as taking care of horses and equipment after the sessions, assist or facilitate recreational horsemanship and mounted sessions, general care of horses and barn maintenance, and any duties associated with these.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Assist Equine Therapist with running an equine therapy program.
• Set up equipment and prepare horses for equine therapy sessions and clean up after sessions.
• Assist or facilitate recreational horsemanship and/or mounted sessions.
• Interact with children according to treatment plans and Village policies.
• Provides basic supervision and behavior management of children at the barn.
• Demonstrates the ability to empathize with children with special needs and from different backgrounds.
• Ability to verbally redirect and/or de-escalate behavior to prevent or minimize the need for physical restraints.
• Organize and maintain equipment used for therapeutic sessions and general horse care.
• Assist with general barn maintenance and horse care as needed, this includes: grooming horses, stall cleaning, stocking hay and other supplies, general barn maintenance, driving a tractor, bringing horses in from pasture or turning them out, provide medication or basic veterinary aid to horses as instructed by Equine Therapist or Veterinarian.
• Contacts the Equine Therapist with questions, concerns, or during an emergency with the horses.
• Abides by all safety regulations.
• Communicates and works cooperatively with all village staff.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience working in an active barn. Ability to observe, formulate, and institute measures for the safety of the horses.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Must be flexible about work schedule.
• Ability to ride safely and effectively in all three gaits and on trails
