After lessons in Goochland County beginning at 8, and riding in hunter shows in the Richmond and Tidewater areas from junior high through college years, I started eventing as a low-level competitor in 1982. Over the years in northern Virginia, I proceeded to train and coach through placings at Intermediate level, after training for some intensive periods with a number of team riders and other talented professionals. I am a USDF Bronze Medalist, and as a USDF 'L' graduate with distinction, judged close to 100 dressage competitions throughout the mid-Atlantic region for some 10 years. I have much dressage coaching and training experience, including taking home a Fourth level high-score championship in recognized competition. In eventing, my students have earned a Reserve Championship in Area II as well as wins and other placings through Preliminary level.

One of life's most rewarding experiences has been contributing to another's development. A noteworthy example involves a client who rode in schooling jumper shows as a teen. In her late 30's, neither she nor her big, headstrong horse had ever evented- and she had never ridden in a dressage arena. After five years of our applying correct basics with discipline and consistency to manifest their collective talent, the pair was able to place third in a large Intermediate division at Morven Park. That's what's been known as one satisfying run! She described the joys and challenges of her journey in a Chronicle of the Horse article.
